Writing is tough. It can be hard, especially for new beginners. You wait to get better and to gain traction, but you’re just not there yet.

You keep wondering what it is you have to do to succeed.

And the secret? Come up with 10 ideas every day. It doesn’t matter what they are. They can be about anything.

The point of this is to activate your brain and train your creative muscles.

I have plenty of ideas, and not all of them are good. But every day, I write down 10 headline ideas, no matter how bad they are. In fact, this is the idea on which it hinges. Not all of your ideas are going to be good.

Many of them are going to be trash. You’re going to think to yourself “Do I really have to write this down?” Yes, yes you do. You need crappy ideas to get to the good ideas.

It’s all about getting it out of your head and onto paper or phone. Once you have it out there, you can sort through the muck and find the gold. But you’re never going to find the gold unless you have the dirt.

The more you do this, the more you will come up with. You’ll have more material, and therefore give yourself the chance for growth.

Come up with any 10 ideas today. Make them crappy. The more they suck the better. It means you’re getting closer to the good ones.
