Last month, I published my first post on Medium. In case you didn’t know, you need 100 followers for the Medium Partner Program, so I got to work.

Within three weeks I had reached my quota, without any gimmicks, marketing, or follow trains. Here are what my stats looked like in the first month.

I felt pleased with my results, so I thought I would share my secrets with you. Here’s what I did.

I wrote and published an article every day.

You don’t have to publish an article every day, but you do have to be consistent. Some people are concerned about the quality of their writing when they’re first starting out. I say it’ll come over time with quantity. More content means more chances for eyes to see it.

I read everything I could.

I spent my nights reading other medium articles. I started a reading list that I would put articles in, and whenever I had a chance I would read articles. I browsed my feed, used the search bar, and overall read more.

And here’s the key:

I engaged with others’ material.

I didn’t just read others’ work. I would highlight passages that stood out to me and I would write thoughtful responses. I tried to stay away from generic ‘Good work!” comments and tried to incorporate something from the article that showed I read it.

By doing these three things, I was able to organically gain 100 followers. It may have taken some time, but it was worth it to me. It’s an accomplishment.

I guarantee if you do these things you will get results. Good luck and carry on
