This is What Happens When You Start Writing Every Day

I’m publishing an article every day and getting real-time feedback on my ideas and writing.

I’ve been writing every day for almost three months now. I turn on my computer, turn off my phone, and write for twenty minutes straight with no interruptions. No checking social media, no asides with my family, no getting up to pee. I wait.

I sit there, with my butt in the chair, until my time is up.

My output is higher than it has even been in my life.

I’m publishing an article every day and getting real-time feedback on my ideas and writing. And I’ve learned some good things.

  • For one, I find the argument of quality versus quantity to be moot. In fact, quantity leads to quality. This is a fact. Your writing will never get better until you write more.

Just because you may post less often doesn’t mean it’s not true.

The only way to improve your writing is to write more.

  • The other thing I’ve noticed, aside from my writing skills growing, is my thoughts are more organized.

I don’t need to spend as much time mind mapping or outlining because once I have the idea in mind, I can create a flow from there. It’s only because I’ve spent time building the muscle that allows me to do this.

  • I’ve grown my audience organically. I was so excited when I hit 100 followers. I kept updating my mom on my progress. I’m sure she got tired of it, every time we would interact I would open with how many followers and reads I was getting.

I’ve gotten a lot of reads too.

I was surprised the first month to see how many views I was getting. It may seem small to others, but to me, it felt like a lot. And the views have only been increasing. They’ve been increasing at a steady rate.

In month two, I’ve doubled my stats. If that’s the trajectory for my career, I have to say I’d be pretty happy.

  • My confidence has also grown. I feel more comfortable writing for any length of time because I do it so often. With that, I start to feel more comfortable and confident in my voice.

Oddly, I’ve been finding my voice in real life too. Speaking up when in the past I wouldn’t have. It’s like by writing I finally opened my mouth and now everything I’ve ever wanted to say is coming out, and that’s not a bad thing.

It’s empowering. I’m finding my voice both metaphorically and literally.

Every day, I expand my skill set and build stronger muscles. I feel strong.

Writing every day has brought me plenty of benefits like quality writing, better organization flow, growth, and finding my voice.

There is so much to be learned from writing every day. It’s a journey I will continue to take.

What have you learned?
