So much to do, so little time. You can barely keep it all straight and it’s starting to overwhelm you. You feel lost and out of focus and don’t know what to do. It’s all starting to catch up with you. What can you do?Slow down. Pause. Take a breath.Ask yourself, “What’s the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”This powerful question will guide you to do the most task-efficient chores.

As a writer, the most important thing you can do to make everything easier is to write. If you don’t write, you don’t have content. If you don’t have content, there’s nothing to publish. If there’s nothing to publish, then you’re screwed.Writing is the one thing that will make everything else easier. By asking that question, you’ve narrowed down your field of vision to the most important task. You may look at your list and stress over the multitudes of chores. It doesn’t seem possible to pick the most important. Ask yourself this question. The most important task for you could be going grocery shopping. If you don’t go grocery shopping, you don’t have food. No food means you can’t make dinner. No dinner means your family is hungry. You’ve just isolated the most important thing for you to do.As you cross the most important things off your list, you can continue to ask this question to figure out what to do next.Instead of rushing around doing nonessential tasks, you can focus on making progress in essential tasks. After writing, the second most important thing is publishing. After publishing, it’s sharing and marketing. You see where I’m going with this.Use this question to declutter the tasks on your list. You only deal with one thing at a time. This question will save you the headache of figuring out what to do next. It places priority on the items and forces you to evaluate which is necessary, and which isn’t.Whenever you feel lost and out of focus, answer the question — “What is the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”The answer will come to you.
