5 Fantastic Benefits of Running That Have Nothing to Do With Fitness

2. Eat more

Every morning, you wake up and drag yourself out of bed. You go to the kitchen where you start your day off with a cup of coffee. You yawn and stretch your weary limbs.

It’s a slow morning and you need to get your energy up. What better way to do that than to get outside and get your heart pumping?

Instead of putting on the kettle, try putting on your running shoes. A morning run will wake you right up. Here are some other reasons to run that have nothing to do with fitness.

1. Endorphins rock

When you run, your body releases endorphins. Endorphins give you that natural “runner’s high” feeling. It gets your heart racing and lifts your spirits.

Because of that, running is great for your mental health. By starting your day off with running, your brain emits all those feel-good chemicals that last throughout the day.

2. Eat more

If you’re a foodie like me, then you’ll love this point. Running burns a lot of energy. If you’re looking to lose weight, then that might be a good thing. But that’s not what this post is about.

To maintain your current state, you have to eat more to compensate for the extra energy you’re burning off. Chances are running will make you hungrier anyway, and now you have an excuse to eat ice cream.

3. Better posture

There are great natural benefits to running and one of them is better posture. As your body gets used to running, you engage and build certain muscles. The result is that you start to stand up a little straighter.

It’s a bonus result for me because I have scoliosis. Running helps strengthen my back so that it doesn’t hurt as bad.

4. Increased confidence

As per the better posture, you start to feel more confident too. This is both mental and physical. Mentally, you’re holding your body in a better posture. Posture poses for confidence are no joke. Standing tall absolutely makes you more confident.

Physically, you feel better in your body. When you feel better in your body, it’s easy to start feeling more confident.

5. The community

One of the things I love about running is the community. People are always sharing tips and tricks so that you can run better without getting injured. They’re also super supportive.

There’s nothing better than to have others cheer you and your journey on. You meet so many people online and at running events, who love it just as much as you do.

Final thoughts

Running is an amazing sport that brings people together. It gives you a natural high and makes you feel better about yourself. You become confident and your entire outlook changes.

Running doesn’t have to be about fitness. It doesn’t have to be about ‘staying in shape.’ The best running comes from the love of the sport.

There’s no better feeling.
