How to Be Creative in 10 Quick & Easy Steps
Embrace creativity in less than ten minutes
Research is in, and being creative leads to more happiness. But many people don’t know how to be creative. The fact is 75% of people feel they’re not achieving their creative potential.
When you’re bogged down in stress and work, it’s difficult to remember your inner creative genius. Humans are meant to be creative, so why don’t we do it more often?
Many cite “lack of time” as the biggest barrier. But you don’t need a lot of time to be creative.
If time is the reason you struggle with creativity, here are some quick ways to unleash your creativity today.
Doodle for 5 minutes
The nice thing about doodles is they can be random. You don’t have to draw anything intricate or fancy. You can easily spend a few minutes doodling or doodle while you’re listening to something.
Walk up and down the hall
Walking is an excellent way to enhance creativity. By walking every day, you refresh your mind and encourage creativity.
Journal one page
You don’t have to write a lot to be effective; it can be about anything. Come up with ten ideas, write a short story, or journal your current thoughts. Writing it down will generate creativity.
Put on your favorite song and dance
Listening to your favorite music will enhance your creativity. And by dancing, you get your body moving. When your body moves, it increases blood flow and creativity in your brain.
Do a mind map of different things you want to try
Spend a few minutes jotting down everything you can think of on paper. Don’t limit yourself. Write down anything and everything you can think of.
Watch a random youtube video
Whether for entertainment or learning, it’s a great way to engage your senses. You can easily watch a youtube video in a few minutes. And if you’re short on time, try some youtube shorts.
Google random fun facts
Learning is great for your brain. Every time you learn something new, your brain rewires itself and makes new connections. Pick up a random fact and increase your mental creativity.
Listen to a podcast
Podcasts can be fascinating to listen to, and they can be as short as 15 minutes. Take a few minutes to pop in an episode of something that sounds interesting and get absorbed in it.
Read an interesting article
While books can be harder to take a bite of, there are thousands of stories on Medium and other sites you can consume in under ten minutes. Pick one out and see how it sparks new ideas.
Allow yourself to be bored
When you’re bored, it forces your brain to get creative. Sit in silence for five to ten minutes and don’t do anything. Let your mind wander. You’ll be surprised what you may come up with when you’re bored.
