It’s Time to Rest: When to Know to Take A Break
Okay, I’ll admit it. I’ve fallen down the Medium rabbit hole and I can’t seem to climb out of it.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been obsessed with writing, ideas, reading, and stats. I did everything I could think of to get the traction going.
But now I’m tired. Someone else termed this the “medium fever.” I definitely have “Medium fever” and I’ve attacked this website with a real fever.
Unfortunately, this isn’t sustainable. You can’t go full steam ahead on something and expect to keep up the pace long term. That’s a guaranteed formula for burnout.
Truthfully, I’m a little burned. Yet, I’m still feeling good, just tired.
And when you’re tired, and your body is telling you it’s tired, it’s time to slow down and listen.
Take a beat and pause. How are you feeling?
On my days off work, I tend to batch content. Then I have my days at work. Somehow it never feels like I get a day off, because I’m constantly working myself.
Don’t get me wrong because I love writing.
You have to take breaks. You need to have real days off, where you don’t do anything. By that, I mean anything. Otherwise, you’re heading for a cliff.
Slow down and relax. It’s okay. Nobody is going to judge you, and if they do, screw them. You have every right to take a break. Do what’s best for you.
P.S. To be clear, I am not taking a break from Medium. I’m simply adjusting my expectations for myself.
