Do You Feel Lonely Too? You’re Not Alone.

Everybody’s lonely.

I had only been on Tinder for a while. I met a guy who was also a student at my college.

We exchanged numbers and we were on the flirting fast track. He kept asking me different questions about my life, and when the conversation got stilted he would dive into another question.

Then one night he asked me.

What are you most afraid of?

I stopped. I could have given an arbitrary answer like bugs or heights, but those things aren’t what I’m most afraid of.

Had I answered him, I would have said — I’m terrified that I’m going to be alone forever. I didn’t tell him that, mostly because I didn’t see it until later, and we had already moved on.

More than anything, that’s my greatest fear. Ironically, I don’t think I’m alone in that. And research done in New Zealand supports that.

Teenagers and college kids alike are feeling loneliness in rising numbers. This burst of loneliness is found to be a predictor of everything from anxiety to depression. Loneliness goes hand in hand with mental health and they have a direct relationship with each other.

I don’t want to be alone forever. Chances are you don’t either. Even the most loner people alive, chances are they don’t want to feel alone. There’s a difference between feeling lonely and being alone.

Nobody wants to feel alone. Even though it doesn’t seem that way, you’re not alone. I’m here and I’m walking with you.
