Just Your Average Christmas Morning

It’s an average Christmas morning and I’ve already been up since the crack of dawn. I’m always excited by Christmas morning.

Christmas morning comes and I’m the first out of bed into the living room, waiting eagerly for present time.

My dad wakes up next. My mom ambles out of bed soon after in search of her first cup of coffee. Finally, my sister arrives.

We all sit around the living room, clad in our pajamas. We each have our designated spots.

Mom turns on the fireplace and my dad boots up the video camera. It’s time.

Dad distributes our presents and we take turns unwrapping as he films every moment. We pull gifts out of our humongous stockings that are overflowing with items.

It’s our regular family tradition. At least it is until everything changed.
