This Is What Happens When You Miss A Day of Writing

It finally happened. After writing consistently for over 3 months, it happened. I missed a day of writing.

It was a conscious decision. I didn’t forget or run out of time.

I was enjoying time with my mom and celebrating Christmas Eve by watching movies. My cat was on my lap. I was cozy and comfy where I was.

I thought it would be okay to press pause on my writing for one day.

And you know what happened?

Nothing.

Nothing happened.

The world didn’t end. I didn’t implode. And you know what?

I was even okay with it.

It’s easy to be hard on ourselves when we screw up.

You think ‘I should’ve been better.’ You can beat yourself to death with should’ve, have-to, and must.

You think that you failed. You made one mistake and now it has doomed you for eternity.

I’m here to tell you — it’s okay.

You’re going to miss a day sometimes, but that doesn’t have to be the end. As long as you pick yourself back up and get to it the next day, you’ll be golden.

The only way we build lasting change is through tiny efforts.

One missed practice isn’t going to derail your habits. Likewise, one practice will not shape any future habits.

As long as you don’t make skipping a habit, one day off won’t kill you. In fact, it may be just what you need.

Cut yourself some slack and get back up the horse tomorrow.
