How to Read More Than 100+ Books This Year
If you want to learn how to read some more and increase your literary outtake, here are some tips for you.
Wanting to read more is a noble goal. There are so many books out there dying to be read and fill your head. As we head into the new year, many people are setting resolutions. One of them may be to read more.In 2020, I set out on the feat of reading 100 books that year. It seemed daunting. It seemed out of reach. But I did it. I read (just shy) of a hundred. The only reason I didn’t complete it is because I wound up in the hospital. If I hadn’t been in the hospital, I would have reached the 100 book quota.
Regardless, it’s still a ton of books to read in a year and was a major accomplishment. If you want to learn how to read some more and increase your literary outtake, here are some tips for you.
Get a library card
Libraries are an underrated resource and are rife with materials. Library cards are free to get and then you get access to a whole trove of materials, which again is free. You even download apps like Hoopla and CloudLibrary, which will give you access to eBooks and audiobooks that you can take with you anywhere.
Listen to audiobooks
Not everybody will be into listening to books, but it’s a great way to consume more books. It makes reading even easier because you can take it anywhere. You can listen to books while you’re working out or driving. You can even speed up the recordings up to 2x and get through books even faster.
Pick shorter books
It’s not cheating to pick shorter books. Choose a book of short essays or read more short stories. Those count, and they’re an easy way to up your book count. There are plenty of short stories around.Short stories go by even quicker and you could bang one out in a sitting if you feel like it.
Carve out time every day
This is an obvious, but important, one. You’re not going to read a lot of books unless you take time out of your day to read. Anytime you want to do something new, it’s going to require taking the time to do it.Find the time that works best for you, whether it’s when you first get up or before you go to bed.
There are tons of ways to meet your reading quota, so long as you’re willing to put the work in. If every week you listen to one audiobook and complete one physical book, you can make it.You can get help by sourcing from your local library, picking shorter books, and listening to eBooks. As with anything, you have to take the time to do it. If it’s important to you, set time aside designated for reading. There are literally millions of books waiting for you. Go ahead and pick one.
