How to Make Progress Even When You Feel Lost and Disheartened

“Anything worth doing is worth doing badly.”

— G.K. Chesterton

If something is worth doing, then it’s worth doing it no matter how bad or good you are. When something matters to you, you find a way to do it. You have to make peace with the fact that it’s not always going to be good.If you half-ass something it’s better than before. And that’s the whole goal here. Having something is better than having nothing.Doing something halfway is better than not doing it at all. Can’t write an article? Write one sentence. Can’t run a mile? Walk for one minute. Can’t take a shower? Wash your hands.Everything you do works towards a bigger goal. So, even if all you do is progress 1% today, it’s still one percent. Over time, those add up. Eventually, if you keep at it, you will have something.Sometimes it’s better to half-ass something rather than having nothing at all.Especially when you have mental health issues. We expect achievements to look big, like graduating college. But when you’re struggling, it matters to do even the smallest of things. Feeding yourself or making your bed. That’s the overall lesson here. If something matters to you, work on it in some way, shape, or form. It doesn’t have to be big. Do the smallest thing you can think of. And once you’ve done it, it’s a huge accomplishment.Work towards something bigger and better. Everything you do counts.
