It’s Okay to Want to Change Your Mind and Reverse Your Decision
The other day I saw a post talking about how the author used to write 1000 articles. It inspired me. It made me want to write more. I wanted to challenge myself to write that much. So, on a whim, I decided I would write 1000 articles for the rest of the year. After a quick calculation, that would put me at roughly 3 or 4 articles every day. It’s a lot, but I was game to do it. I could rise to the challenge. Then I read this article from Yana Bostongirl. In it, she makes a good point. Writing at that frequency can be overwhelming.[embed]https://medium.com/the-shortform/why-i-stopped-being-your-loyal-follower-e9cac8cda0df[/embed]People can’t keep up with three to four posts every day. It’s too much.Which made me think. It’ll be hard enough doing it on my end, do I really want to make it hard on my readers? After all, this challenge wasn’t about them, it was about me. And as I’ve read before, writing can’t be for you all the time. You have to consider what’s best for your readers.Which led me to question — Why did I really want to do this? I already write on a consistent basis. I post every day. Why did I really need to up the frequency? And the truth was I didn’t have to.It’s great to set challenges for yourself. It’s also okay to back down from them when you know they’re not in your best interest. And I decided it wasn’t in my best interest. We seem to think that once we commit to something, we have to stay committed. Otherwise, you look like a flake. But it should be okay to be able to change your mind. You don’t owe anybody anything. It’s a strength to be able to admit that.I’m not going to do 1000 articles this year. And that’s okay. And we should be okay with these things more often.
