If You’re Not Writing for Yourself, Then You Should Stop Writing
The common advice to writers is, “Write for other people.”The goal is to provide your audience with value. So, when you write, you should look at it from your reader’s perspective and see how you can make it more relevant to their lives. But why are you writing in the first place?Did someone tell you to?Did someone put a knife to your throat and threaten you to write? No.Let’s be honest here, I’m writing for myself. I’m writing for you too, but myself comes first. And if I didn’t like writing or want to share, I wouldn’t be here.I’m here because I have stories to tell and lessons to share. These are all about me, but they’re universal in nature and they affect you too.Ultimately, writing is about ourselves. We write because we want to share our knowledge and experiences. It’s about you and me, but it wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for me.And if you’re not writing for yourself, then why are you writing at all?Writers need to enjoy what they’re doing. You need to enjoy what you’re doing. If you’re not enjoying writing, then you’re losing. The point of doing anything is because you like and enjoy it.I wouldn’t be here otherwise.
