Purpose is largely regarded as a necessity for being.

If you don’t have a sense of purpose, you’re screwed. There’s a narrative that you need to have purpose because that’s what makes your life full.

And it’s true. It does. But we’re looking at it the wrong way.

We expect that we decide what our purpose is and then we go after it. That’s why we hem and haw and go back and forth.

We expect that with enough thinking and deliberating, we can find it all on our own.

But you don’t find your purpose. Your purpose finds you.

You don’t think about what your purpose is. You do things until one screams at you so loud it becomes your purpose.

I started writing because I knew I enjoyed it. I was following my interests. And eventually, with enough writing, it became my purpose.

It’s like in Cal Newport’s book, So Good They Can’t Ignore You. You don’t find your passion. It comes as a result of following your interests and building your skills. You have to put in some work upfront before you get results.

It’s going to be tough. Breaking through that resistance is crucial.

Initially, you’re going to resist. Keep going. Once you breakthrough, the real fun starts. Once you breakthrough, then you start to feel like a queen or king. You’ve ‘found’ the thing, except you didn’t find it.

You followed your instincts and your gut and it led you to this. It led you to your purpose.

You don’t find your purpose. It’s not something you choose. It’s not something you can find through your mind.

It’s something you stumble over on your self-journey, but it’s not the journey itself.

You might be one of the lucky ones who know your path, but it’s completely normal to not know.

Life is an adventure and you need to explore interests and skills.

Follow your instinct. It will lead you to great places.
