I Turned The Happiest Place On Earth Into A Nightmare

It was supposed to be a normal day until the paramedics showed up.

It was the end of April and my mom and I were attending a conference in Orlando, Florida. Since we were right there, we decided to spend a few days at Disney World. My sister even flew down to join us.

The morning started as typical as you could get. We woke up, I ate my breakfast, and we prepared ourselves for our first stop: Animal Kingdom.

Our first stop was Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. It’s one of our favorites.

It was a fairly warm day for being the end of April. I run hot anyway, so I was hot standing in line. They had fans going to keep the queue cool, but I felt hot. I decided to sit down on the stones next to the line.

The next thing I know is that I’m unconscious.

My vision is pure black and I can feel my body convulsing. I know this void well. I’m familiar with passing out. My sister and I have been doing it all throughout our teenage years.

The darkness is familiar. In my blacked-out haze, I feel the rush of cool water being poured over me. That was my mom. Thinking it would be helpful to constantly pour a pool of cold water on my face on my chest.

I wanted to tell her to stop, I just couldn’t come to. It was a shock to my system.

As I come back from my unconscious slumber, I find myself lying on a stretcher with the paramedics nearby. They’re checking my vitals and making sure everything is alright.

I try to sit up and am immediately revisited by the blackout. Every time I think I’m okay and ready to get up, it comes back and washes over me like a wave.

I guess I wasn’t going to be getting up any time soon.

I stayed in a horizontal position, as it was the only way for me to remain conscious. The paramedics were asking me questions and I was answering them.

At the time, I was also on my period.

The female paramedic said it happened to be the perfect storm. Just enough variables lined up and I blacked out.

My episode resulted in us having to cut our Disney trip short. Sadly, we didn’t get to ride any of the rides, all because I had to go and faint.
