The Fastest Way to Change Your Own World

You are responsible for everything that happens in your life.

I used to be so offended when people told me this. I would hear it and immediately shut down because I couldn’t agree with it. I just could not get on board that you’re responsible for everything in your life. How can you justify poverty and world hunger? Are those people really responsible for their conditions? No. They can’t help what they were born into. But they can help how they act and respond in turn.Things in life happen outside of our control. We can’t do anything about them except deal with them.Life is so much better when we take accountability for our lives and actions. No, we may not be able to control our conditions, but we can control our response. You choose whether you are happy or not. You make decisions every day that lead you to where you are now.Granted, there is a percentage of people who aren’t entirely responsible for their actions. You could argue people who are mentally unwell aren’t entirely in their own control. Their brain chemistry has been hijacked and, well, our brains are responsible for many of our actions.

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ultimately, it is up to you to decide what it is you want to do and who you want to be.
