The Tricky Balance Between Writing Too Much and Too Little

I have a problem. That is, I have a writing problem. I have a tendency to go on long-winded diatribes. Expanding past the point of no return. My guess is because I’m a fiction writer first, and the devil is in the details.Online writing is a balance. It requires you to expand enough to cover the details and be short enough that it doesn’t bore your readers.A quote from Winston Churchill comes to mind:
A good speech is like a women’s skirt; long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest.
Good writing is the same way. It’s a tricky balance between too long and too short. You don’t want to go too far in either direction. That’s why writing is an art.
