You Have Different Faces Depending On Your Circumstances
THE DAILY WRITE
You’re not the same person
June 23rd: Are you the same person on social media as you are in real life?I’d like to think I’m the same person, whether I’m online or in real life. Truth is, I’m not. The face I show on social media is different than the one I see in the mirror. But the one I see in the mirror is different from what my friends see. It’s different from what my mom sees.We wear different faces depending on where we are or who we’re with. You don’t act the same in front of your pastor as you do your best friend. You don’t act the same when you’re with your grandmother. There are multiple versions of who you are, and it’s a game as to who shows up where. On social media, I try to act closer to how I do by myself. But even then, I know it’s not the same.As a writer, I show up bare bones. Writing with my heart on my sleeve is yet another expression of who I am.I don’t know that there’s one standard version of yourself. One true, authentic version that holds up above others. People are multifaceted beings, of course. And every day, I’ll work on bridging the gap.
Key Message: You have many faces that show up in different circumstances.
